The Avengers Review… Well Sort of

Published

on

Fine, the world wide web is awash with ‘The Avengers’ from reviews to basically every sort of discussion imaginable.  No beef there, Joss Whedon and Marvel have earned the attention.  They did an awesome job with that movie.

The Avengers is awesomely fantastic.  As of this moment, it has roughly made $624 million worldwide in its second week of showing.  And still with the figures, it has quite the healthy 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  ‘The Avengers’ opened around the world on the 27th of April, breaking records and making some in the process, as if that wasn’t enough, on the 4th of May, it opened in the States, making a total of $200 million in ONE night… If those figures don’t in any way urge you to NOT miss out on currently the best cinematic experience this year (waiting on Prometheus, Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises), then… 🙁

To truly understand Avengers, you must have watched Captain America (the object of the ‘bad guy’s attention aka Loki, the plot device comes from the film Captain America, released 2011) and Thor (the villain of Avengers comes from that film, released 2011 too).  You won’t necessarily float that much if you haven’t watched those two flicks, but you will draw a blank when it comes to certain several references and character interactions on screen and to quite some extent miss out on the background of the characters and story.  Oh yes, throw in Iron Man  2, although simply for the sake of Black Widow (Scarlett Johnsson) and Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson).  I didn’t like that film.  A waste of the gripping Iron Man mythos as seen in the comics.

Here’s ‘The Avengers Ultimate Heroes’ Trailer with scenes from those respective films proving my point:

To simply put it; Avengers is a well made mix of humor, action, effects and superheroes.  Every major character gets their own time onscreen to shine; weakness as well as strengths are shown.  Out of all the characters, it’s most likely Hawkeye you may not remember seeing very well, but that’s because he appeared briefly and in the shadows in Thor.  remember that scene where a mortal Thor breaks into the set-up SHIELD camp in the desert in an attempt to retrieve his hammer and powers?  He then plows through a couple of guards, kneels before his hammer and fails to retrieve it… Remember a certain soldier who had been dispatched with arrows to shoot him down but who’s face remained in the shadows…? Yes that was Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

This movie is worth every cent of a movie ticket.  The story (not quite Inception 😉 ), but very much suites that kind of movie.  The heroes come together in quite a believable fashion with their egos, strengths, weakness, wit and outfits in tow.  Tom Hiddleston (Loki) plays quite the villain for this flick.  I loved his portrayal, petty yet evil.  In short, if you want to laugh, see some scale of action that far surpasses any finale fight scene witnessed in Transformers, go for this!  You’ll have fun! 🙂

To my beloved Kenyan movie lovers, DO NOT wait for this on DVD, DO NOT. DO NOT. DO NOT! The figures shown earlier, and testimony by those who have bothered to go watch this film, especially in IMAX completely proves that it’s worht the money.  Even if this is the only movie you go to watch in IMAX this year, fine, do so.  If you argue you’ll wait for it on DVD, then you my friend are speaking out of ignorance, simply because you have absolutely no idea what you’re missing. Go, heed my words, watch it, IMAX! 🙂

Thumbs up to the Movie Jabber crowd that gathered, out of 20 booked seats, 12 peeps turned up, and 4 bought their T-shirts right there and then.  To those who came late and missed out, there’s still this coming weekend… *hint* 😉 I am seriously going for that film again!

Movie Jabber Rating: 9/10
