PACIFIC RIM | New Monstrous and Chaotic WonderCon Trailer, Sweet!

Pacific Rim created mixed reactions when its first trailer went public online, that division still stands today.   One faction, relying on director Guillermo del Toro’s expertise with amazing visuals and story telling, not to mention some strong names in the cast e.g. Idris Elba and Ron Perlman, believe that this fresh groundbreaking story may just surprise everyone and be a hit, sparking something new in Hollywood… The remaining other faction believe that in the wake of a summer movie period congested with bigger names returning for sequels (Fast and Furious 6, Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness)  and reboots (Man of Steel), not that many people would be willing to save some cash for this literal clash of the titans onscreen spectacle…

That fact weighs heavy on the minds of the execs at Warner Brothers, so much so that they allowed this next trailer, that was supposed to be exclusive only to WonderCon, a film showcase event of sorts, to be shared online by Guillermo del Toro. It reveals alot more of the story, and the best part for some us here, is our first look at Ron Perlman…

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.
