Marvel Comics have been smart of late in terms of the different phases they have used to deploy certain properties onscreen, turning them into major household names and cash cows… Fine a closer look at the methods may illicit some mixed feelings here and there, but one thing’s certain; they have a smooth running plan. So smooth infact, that if you’ve missed it, the world of their record breaking and setting 2012 hit The Avengers is about to find its way to the small screen. Well, not The Avengers exactly, but their shared universe…

Marvels’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

ABC has picked up Marvel’s foray into the world of TV via the show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  The general plot is simple really, so simple that we shouldn’t quote it but we will anyways:

“Agent Phil Coulson puts together a small team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to handle strange new cases.” Wikipedia

From the trailer above and information outside the trailer, here are some pointers to note:
– Agent Phil Coulson is alive and well, and didn’t really ‘die’ as seen in The Avengers when he stood up to Loki. The actor himself, Clark Gregg confirms that there is an “element of deception at play” surrounding his ‘death’ in the film.
– The series (if successful in the long run) will most likely serve as a platform of sorts and linking factor quite possibly between current onscreen adaptations from Marvel and future ones.

Members of S.H.I.E.LD., or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, include: Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) via Mashable

Marvel fans and comic book fans as a whole should be happy with this bit of news, so let’s see how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fares against DC Comics Arrow… yes we just had to go go and insert a Marvel vs DC Comics turf-war lead in 😉 We do try our best.
