In Honor of The Dark Knight…
The Dark Knight Rises marked the end of the reinvention of Batman by Christopher Nolan in way that not only earned him public approval, but the hard to come by critical approval. As of the today, here are the quick facts:
- It had a budget of $ 250 Million and has so far raked in $552,245,972. All this WITHOUT the blown up pricing of 3D tickets (*cough* Avengers i’m looking at you). Imagine if it had been in 3D, and if the unfortunate and tragic shooting incident hadn’t occurred….
- The Dark Knight trilogy is one of the best and most successful trilogy so far, and according to my source, raking in more than $ 2 Billion…
Well, it has been a fun, re-inventive and engaging ride that Christopher Nolan took me through (if i can become a bit personal). The dark and realistic take on <insert harsh gruff voice> Batman ;-), the splendid and entertaining array of villains, and solid heart-warming support characters and mind boggling plots have set the bar rally high for the superhero genre. In addition to that, and most importantly, aspects of Batman’s world have become part of ours… Case in point, how many times have you come across….

How about the most famous if not entertaining villain of all time dare i say? The Joker. The late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the character made him quite the icon. How many times online do you find the Joker posters and his all too popular phrases… “Why so serious?”
Not forgetting the ‘shock-effect’ of his facial appearance and the so many well written, and delivered lines the character had to offer…
And if that isn’t enough, how many parodies are there online that simply crack you up? Here are what i consider the best so far…

In a way, this is just one way of saying thank you to Christopher Nolan for re-inventing and breathing full blown life into a comic-book character that probably has the most onscreen adaptations than any other. He’s probably living the life of a film-maker and in short, a story-teller. Having your stories and characters within your stories stretch out beyond the confines of that story and impact culture and the world around you is quite the dream. Congratulations Mr.Nolan. Thank you for making history, entertaining us and challenging our notions of super-heroes, and showing us it isn’t all about spandex, gadgets and always having it easy 😉
To wrap it up, if you’ve watched all three entries to The Dark Knight Trilogy: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, here’s a lovely trilogy trailer that ties them all together they way Rises did. Enjoy.
