Hell on Wheels…

Published

on

Another gritty release from AMC the same womb that spawned The Walking Dead so you kinda get the idea of what to expect: grit, no dramatic background music, realistically paced story that let’s the traits of the different characters, gruesomeness/harshness of any predicament they’re in sink in..

Hell on Wheels is no different.  Simple, dark opening theme; dark brooding yet simple (i use the word again cause there are no dramatics in this thing) lead with just one ambition; revenge.  No don’t get jumping to assumptions cause you’ve seen enough revenge flicks to know how this one will end, this one feels different.  More so because the lead character is a man hardened by war, the murder of his wife and wants no problems with the outside world other than getting his revenge…

It’s a western based series, and as i said earlier on, there are no dramatics involved, but the scenery and set quite on point.   Some might call the pacing ‘slow’ because there are no occasional heart-stopping moments a la ’24’ or any other action series.  I would say it isn’t slow, and i will venture further and describe it as ‘settled’ in its pacing allowing everything to sink in…

In terms of story, characterization, acting and general appeal, it’s a cross between Game of Thrones, Homeland and The Walking Dead.  In short i find it solid.  But hey, as at this moment, i am in episode three and yet to see how the entire season 1 turns out 🙂

In conclusion, i would say it may bode well more with the male audience than the female audience. Why?Watch and find out…  I could be wrong, but hey feel completely free to agree or disagree with me on that point and any other 🙂
