Cosplay is a shortened form of two words – costume and play.

It’s the art or practice of wearing costumes to portray characters from fiction, especially from movies, manga, comic books, animations, and science fiction stories across several mediums.  People who cosplay are known as ‘cosplayers’.

CosComKE Tournament at MJX April 2018

CosComKE Tournament is the 2nd cosplay category and 3rd overall event category at April’s MJX.  This competition category is open to all people, from the ages 13+ to express their love for favorite iconic characters from the world of fandom by dressing up as them!  You can dress up in the most realistic get-up possible of characters from the world of movies, comic books, TV shows, animations, anime, and manga.

READ THIS!! Please note you can still come and cosplay/dress up for fun, no need to compete if you don’t want to.  But just to be clear, the perks and regulations that apply to contestants will NOT apply to you.

Winnings – Judge’s Choice

To qualify to take part in this competition and win, you must first register.  Once you register and follow all competition and event rules up to event day, and your outfit impresses the Judges, you stand a chance at winning the below prizes:

  • 1st Place: 10,000 Kshs. (plus a bonus once-in-a-lifetime secret surprise prize)
  • 2nd Place: 8,000 Kshs.
  • 3rd Place: 5,000 Kshs.

CosComKE Tournament Rules

Below are the rules that govern this event category.  Please take them seriously and note that you may be disqualified if you do not follow the rules.  Movie Jabber retains the right to accept/reject submissions without any explanation:

  1. Registration: You must register correctly, supplying all information and content required in the form, by the deadline date.  Registration link below, bottom of the page.
  2. Registration Deadline: Friday April 20th, 6pm.
  3. Early Check-In: You will have to check-in early, in costume between 11AM and 12NOON Saturday April 28th.  This early check-in slots you in for a one-on-one interview with the judges.  This will be for a limited time, on first-come-first-served basis and will allow the judges ample time to evaluate your costume carefully and fairly.  This will of course determine your score with the Judges.  This is your all important chance to show off the attention to detail that went into your costume, do not be late!
  4. Lateness: Failure to check in on time and be interviewed means you will be disqualified from the Tournament because the Judges will not hang around once they are done within the allocated time.
  5. Event Ticket Price: Only confirmed registered cosplayers will pay half the event ticket price.  You must arrive and check-in while already in costume, against a list with your name, for this to apply to you.  Arrival and check-in is by 12NOON at the latest.  Any later and you pay full event price and risk getting disqualified from the Tournament itself.  MJX event ticket price will be announced soon.
  6. NSFW: outfits deemed not family friendly that express extreme nudity such as characters in really short skirts, bikinis etc OR contain weapons made of metal or sharp objects that can harm people will not be permitted.  Please keep in mind this is a family friendly environment and event.
  7. Commitment: A deposit of 200Kshs. (two hundred Kenya Shillings only) commitment fee must be paid by registration deadline of Monday April 16th.  This amount will be topped up on event day to add up to the special discount ticket rate only registered cosplayers will pay.
  8. Commitment Fee Platform: Send to Movie Jabber’s Buy Goods Till Number: 977573.
  9. Why the commitment fee?  This is to regulate any drop-offs between registration and event day.  Basically to weed out the non-serious and non-committed people.  A lot of work and costs go into making the competition category what it is, and it makes the planing process difficult and needlessly expensive when we have a lot of sign-ups than actual cosplayers turning up on event day.  Truth is, anyone can click buttons and type, but not everyone can show up!  This commitment fee is non-refundable.
  10. Email Communication: Always check your email (inbox, spam) on a daily basis.  This will be our primary source of communication.  We will not be held responsible for any email you fail to notice and act upon in time.
  11. **IMPORTANT** Complete Registration & Participation: Your participation is only deemed 100% confirmed and sure when you have (1) registered properly with correct info and content,  (2) paid the commitment fee within the stipulated time period and (3) gotten the confirmation email approving your participation.  In that order, and all three.
