In this day and age, books are the common source material for Hollywood execs in terms for (hopefully) big money earners. Not just any book mind you, but popular classic stories or recent best-sellers. Enter fairy-tales.  2012 saw its share of fairy tale adaptations, and the trend seems to be picking up with the adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk into what is now titled Jack the Giant Slayer

Plot Summary: “Jack the Giant Slayer” tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Popular novel. Check. Well known director attached. Check. Although some in our quarters may argue against Bryan Singer’s abilities to handle fantasy/adventure flicks (Superman Returns anyone?), normal procedure has been followed. What’s left to see are the marketing techniques for the flick and the audience’s reception come D-day. What do you think so far?
