Saving Another Franchise? The Rock in TERMINATOR 5…

Published

on

The man has been on a role this year: Snitch, Fast and Furious 6, Pain and Gain, G.I. Joe: Retaliation…does he ever sleep?  And ontop of that he has his first ever reality TV show called The Hero.  Like it or not, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is definitely on a roll and it doesn’t look like he will be losing momentum anytime soon, you know what they say about rolling stones (rocks in this case 😉 )

Rumor has been there for quite sometime regarding The Rock’s involvement in the upcoming Terminator film slated for 2015.  Just to get you up to date; the story goes that he will star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger as the ‘villain’ of the film in this case a Terminator while Arnie will play a human courageously defending the Connor family from the devices of the machines. Interesting…

Terminator - Arnie vs Rock

The rumors end today, atleast a one half of the rumors.  A recent press release has made it clear that there will be a new entry to the Terminator franchise, but not a sequel of any sorts, but a total reboot of the franchise…

“Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.” via Collider

As stated earlier, one half of the rumor has been certified, the Terminator franchise will be back. BUT will Arnold Schwarzenegger the face (and body) of the franchise return?  Will The Rock have any role in this franchise? It would be a fitting perfect match for Dwayne seeing that he has the physique and to make it even better, the acting talent and draw to breath some new life into the franchise. What say you?
